Lucerne Day Trip

With the special Carta Giornalieri you can get tickets for all ground modes of transportation within Switzerland for an entire day for a bargain.  We love these tickets because it makes a day trip to Lucerne or somewhere else in Switzerland super easy.  We spend 70CH and all of us get to take the train there, use the buses, trams etc, and even get on a boat, if we like!  So that's what we did on our last Friday of vacation.  We kept Liam out of school and left on the 8:12am train to head up north.  I wish I didn't get motion sick, because the ride is otherwise really relaxing and enjoyable, and the views unbeatable!

The weather was promising great things, but the rain held off, and we were able to enjoy a day of walking around town, lunch at a Spanish restaurant (Bolero - not superb for the price, but decent), and we even took a boat ride across the lake to the Transportation Museum.  The kids may have been a little young for the museum, and it's a bit over priced, if you're asking me, but we did have a good time exploring it.  Needless to say Liam's favorite bit was the mini train set that had the track switches.  He wanted to stay there the whole time!  They also loved the huge car garage bit, and Eowyn in particular liked the little carousel.  An hour or so later we hopped on a bus and headed back to the train station, picking up some food for dinner, and by 5:20pm we were on the train heading back home.  We made the most of the 2 hour 30 min ride by eating our dinner, and so by the time we got home it was an easy and quick bedtime for the littles.

Eowyn was enamored with these weird statues outside of an eye glasses shop - here she is hugging them!

Lunch at Bolero - the dessert was rather tasty (fried banana and coconut ice cream!)
